We Found: Dream On
On Friday we were given a choice on doing a musical or a play. As a group we chose the musical, Dream On. It's an adaptation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Dream. The class has a number of backstage roles as well as on stage roles to fill. At the initial meeting I volunteered for the role of Stage Manager. I have not done that much backstage work and I am extremely interested in it. Hopefully I can take a stage roll as well. hopefully not a main singing role or a solo. Maybe one of the carpenters. I am vey excited by the play and am looking forward to it.
What I think will happen
I have signed up for a lighting course at Jagrathi Theater, in Bangalore. The course will take place over the course of 4 weeks. every saturday the course runs from 9am to 1pm. I hope that from this course I can further my understanding of backstage operations. Hopefully I can later on, apply my new found knowledge to drama class, and to my own learning.
The Beginning
Hi there,
My name is Mats Menhardt. I recently transferred from Stonehill Internaitonal School to CIS. At Stonehill they did not offer IB drama as a course. Now that I am in a school with that oppurtunity, I have decided to switch over to Drama.
Since I was about 5-6 I always loved acting. I acted for school plays and classroom presentations. Thanks to my speaking abiltiies I seem to excel in Spoken assignments much better than written. More recently I have done 3 Musicals. A Hairy Tale (a westside story), Dear Edwina (a westside story) and Most recently Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat. Though I have done alot of musicals, though I love anyform of being on stage, I much prefer acting, over Musical. I also did 3 years of MYP Drama, which I loved.
More recently I have become interested in backstage work.
My dream character would have to be someone like..... Ned Stark from the Game of Thrones Series.
His character is one surrounded by enemies but is not faltered by them. Though his bravery is eventually his downfall, he does represent a heroic hero who broke the chains that held the society in order, and eventually lead to the massive changes that the series revolves around.
Though one change I would make, is the fact the Ned Stark has a wife. A character of such magnitude must have no weaknesses that are not his own devices. His wife and family were another component of his downfall.
Thats a little about me.
